Windows 7 Troubleshooting

Yellow Image Viewer

Description:
The frame around your picture appears yellow instead of white.

Reason:
bad monitorprofile

Fix:
Anzeigeeinstellungen > Monitor > Erweiterte Einstellungen… > Farbverwaltung > Farbverwaltung…
Select your monitor, check the box at the bottom and delete the profile on top.
If not fixed, restart your pc.

Black screen when opening 1080p movies

Description:
Everytime you open a Youtube video or a video on your computer in 1080p your screen goes black for some seconds

Reason:
NVIDIA scans the scale or something…

Fix:
Open your NVIDIA Settings → “Adjust desktop color settings” section and change “Content type reported to the display” from “Auto-select (recommended)” to “Desktop programs”.
Black screens should be gone now

80070005 error when updating

Description:
Everytime you try to run the Windows update it prompts 80070005 error

Reason:
Well.. Microsoft says this is an “Access Denied” problem.
https://support.microsoft.com/kb/968003/de says, Iam not logged in as an Administrator (I was) or I have a malware problem (I havent)…

Fix:
I found different things like “delete this” or “delete that”, turn the update service off and on… Didnt help at all..
In the end, the problem was that I had “Windows Defender” turned off… fuck really? m(

Networkshares dont save your logininfo

Description:
Everytime you connect a networkshare, add your logininfo and select “save the info” it will not save anything.

Reason:
Windows is stupid…

Fix:
Start → Controlpanel → left side “manage own logininformation” → Add windows logininformation
Add your networkshare, username and password.
After a restart/relog your networkshare wont ask you for the logininformation.

Not enough memory and other weird problems

Description:

  • Explorer.exe crashes
  • in explorer everytime you click on a directory a new explorer window appears, even if you have the right option selected
  • Event viewer (Management Console) cannot be opened because there is not enough memory availiable
  • VLC, Greenshot, CCleaner and other .exe files cause an error, there are .dll files missing (like “api-ms-win-downlevel-shell32-l1-1-0.dll”)

Reason:
I guess I had this problem because I had no free memory left for a while because of to many tabs in Chrome.

Fix:
There is no real solution for this problem. My solution was to copy the missing files from another Windows 7 Prof. 64bit SP1.

Copy the following .dlls from the functional windows “C:\Windows\winsxs\[subdir]” into the not functional windows without the subdir in “C:\Windows\System32\”. (x86 stands for the subdirs):

x86_microsoft-windows-downlevelapisets-base_31bf3856ad364e35_7.1.7601.16492_none_c2b7d547f57dc081
api-ms-win-downlevel-advapi32-l1-1-0.dll
api-ms-win-downlevel-advapi32-l2-1-0.dll
api-ms-win-downlevel-normaliz-l1-1-0.dll

x86_microsoft-windows-downlevelapisets-com_31bf3856ad364e35_7.1.7601.16492_none_fef2c6755a84ce37
api-ms-win-downlevel-ole32-l1-1-0.dll

x86_microsoft-windows-downlevelapisets-shell_31bf3856ad364e35_7.1.7601.16492_none_cf025cff09637994
api-ms-win-downlevel-shell32-l1-1-0.dll
api-ms-win-downlevel-shlwapi-l1-1-0.dll
api-ms-win-downlevel-shlwapi-l2-1-0.dll
api-ms-win-downlevel-version-l1-1-0.dll
